Energy – U.S. EV Tariff Hike on Chinese Imports

The U.S. increased tariffs on Chinese-made EVs and related components, pushing duties on EVs to 100% from 25% and on lithium-ion batteries to 25% from 7.5%, as part of a broader trade strategy aimed at concerns over extensive subsidies, market practices, and control that China exercises over the EV supply chain. These tariffs are said to protect U.S. clean energy goals and domestic industries, but will be highly cost-increasing for consumers and further create supply uncertainty for businesses.
